Worked beautifully -- for 6 months

When I bought my curling iron at Sally Beauty Supply, I wanted an iron that would effectively curl my very thick, coarse hair without damaging it or taking forever. It was everything I wanted and more, worked very well and heated up quickly. I tested my hair as recommended to find the appropriate heat setting, and repeated tests showed that I needed it as high as it would go (believe it or not). Worked beautifully for 6 months. Then one day as I was using it I smelled something burning. IT BURNED A 1-1/2" LOCK OF MY HAIR COMPLETELY OFF. There is now a wide black ring around the barrel. I had done nothing different from the previous 6 months' use.
Then I re-read the details on the 2-year warranty. I have to send it in at my expense, and they will repair or replace at their discretion and on their timetable. Now I'm stuck -- I don't trust this thing not to burn my hair off again, but I cannot get my money back. And if I sent it in, what would I use while waiting?
Conclusion: this might work very well on lower heat settings, but I cannot recommend that anyone use this iron at the highest setting. It could work well forever, or it could burn out/short/whatever it was. |
